Star Trek: The Animated Series
The successful syndication of The Original Series and fan pressure for a Star Trek revival led to an animated spin-off about the adventures of the Enterprise crew under Captain Kirk. It was originally named Star Trek but is also known as The Animated Adventures of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek. Airing on Saturday mornings on NBC, the series premiered September 8, 1973 and produced twenty-two episodes before its final broadcast on October 12, 1974.
In addition to those of The Original Series (minus Chekov, as the show's budget could not afford the complete cast), the reccuring characters include Edosian Lieutenant Arex (voiced by James Doohan) and Caitian Lieutenant M'Ress (voiced by Majel Barrett).
While there are other nods to Shakespeare, the only episode in this series to possibly mention Hamlet is "The Practical Joker."
